TOP FRY NKR 2-0 GOR MAHIA
Debutants Top Fry Nakuru wallowing in the lower reaches of the Kenyan premier league inflicted a suprise pain on defending champions Gor Mahia beating them 2-0 in a pulsating match played on Saturday at the Afraha Stadium,Nakuru.
Gor Mahia arrived in Nakuru with pomp and painted the equator town green. However after 90 minutes there was no place to hide for them.Hitherto referred to as the league’s whipping boys and winless coming into this match, the Nakuru based outfit could not have chosen a better occasion to rubbish these sentiments.
They claimed a scalp,a big one.John Ndirangu notched a double,on 47 and 63 minutes to help his side record their maiden win.The champions were outplayed even by their own coach’s admission, his Top Fry counterpart Peter Okidi savouring the moment, delighted at his team’s unprecedented victory.
TUSKER 2-1 ULINZI STARS
Rookie coach Francis Onyiso stumbled on his first assignment when his team went down to Tusker, albeit not without a commanding display. The army side had much control of the game and this will afford the new tactician some encouragement going forward.
Goalkeeper Francis Ochieng brought down Andrew Tololwa on 19 minutes and Clifford Alwanga tucked away the penalty.Tusker struggled thereafter to deal with winger Stephen Waruru’s crisp deliveries and Mulinge Ndeto’s long throws. At the stroke of halftime Evans Amwoka found Waruru, rising unattended,to level the score with a fine header.A minute later Waruru left Joakins
Atudo for dead with a sharp spin but his final pass in the area went begging.
Khalid Aucho restored the brewers’ advantage with 13 minutes left on the clock, finding the bottom corner off a sublime Osborne
Monday pass. The soldiers went full throttle but Tusker held on tight to record their 4th win and move to the top of the log.
AFC LEOPARDS 0-0 CHEMELIL
AFC Leopards, buoyed by their midweek victory over Sony Sugar welcomed leaders Chemelil, the Nyanza side seeking to consolidate their position at the top.AFC started brightly and their combination of Paul Were,Allan Wanga and Jacob Keli caused the visitors some jittery moments.
But Mike Mururi’s side proved equal to the onslaught, their forward line keeping the Leopards defence on the backfoot.Allan Wanga rattled the bar on 40 minutes sending fans on their feet before Gerson Likono at the other end forced Martin Musalia to dive at full stretch.
In the 2nd half the battle was concentrated in midfield as both sides played cautiously and failed to construct any meaningful
inroads.
