South Africa off to winning start in tense COSAFA Derby against Angola
South Africa kicked off their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 win over Angola in a tense COSAFA Derby in Group B match played at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
The match saw Oswin Appollis scoring in the 21st minute to give Bafana Bafana the lead. Hugo Broos’ boys were bouyant and dominant in possession through out the match.
However, Angola came back in the game with an equaliser scored by Show from a setpice in the 35th minute. The game was tied at halftime.
In the Second half South Africa thought they had restored their lead but Tshepang Moremi goal was ruled out for offside by VAR with Lyle Foster being in an offside position during the build-up.
South Africa were not going to be denied an opening victory. Talisman Lyle Foster scoring a cracker in the 79th minute.
South Africa’s unbeaten streak of 26 matches is still intact, and they’ll look to build on this momentum in their next match against Egypt on Friday 26 December, while Angola will look to redeem themselves against another fellow COSAFA rivals in Zimbabwe on the same day.
