Zambia, Comoros share spoils in tense Group A encouter
Zambia and Comoros played out a tense 0–0 draw in their AFCON 2025 Group A clash on Friday at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca. The result leaves both sides still searching for their first win. Zambia now sit third with 2 points, while Comoros remain bottom with 1 point.
Zambia struggled to impose their attacking rhythm, with Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka unable to break through Comoros’ compact defense.
Comoros looked dangerous on the counter but lacked precision in the final third. Zambia pressed higher, earning multiple corners but failing to convert.
Comoros thought they had taken the lead but the goal was cancelled out by VAR for a foul in the build up play on Zambia’s Owen Tembo.
Both teams left frustrated, with Zambia’s expected goals (xG) at just 0.40, reflecting their lack of clear chances.
Zambia were Solid defensively but blunt in attack; Daka and Sakala need sharper service. Comoros on the other hand showed resilience and tactical discipline; however, their lack of finishing remains a concern. Morocco lead Group A on 4 points but Zambia and Mali remain in contention. Comoros must win their next game to keep knockout hopes alive.
Coaches’ Comments
- Stefano Cusin (Comoros):
“It was a difficult match. We played well and could have changed the result. I’m proud of the fight and character of my players, but we lacked cutting edge in the final third”. - Moses Sichone (Zambia):
“It was not easy against Comoros. We didn’t expect the game to unfold this way, but that’s football. I’m satisfied with the point, though we struggled to impose our attacking rhythm. We must improve ahead of Morocco”.
